Day 6 - Crater Lake National Park

Today we plan a visit to Crater Lake. When we wake up it is a clear blue sky and the sun is shining. What else do we need... After breakfast at the hotel we drive to Crater Lake, a drive of about 1,5 hrs. Once we arrive we enter the visitor center, buy some small stuff and while Nathalie is paying... it starts to snow!!!

We drive on the north rim and intend to follow this road clockwise. Due to the snow we get a lot of fog so we can hardly see the lake. We decide to drive on and eventually do twice the loop around the lake. On the north side, the rim down to the east is now closed because of the heavy snow fall. We go back to the south and want to go to the pinnacles overlook but this road is now also closed... We get back to the visitor center and ask if they have any idea what the weather will be the next hours so we know if we should wait till it clears up or not. We are told that today it will not get any better but tomorrow it will again be sunny and about 7°C warmer. Unluckily for us we can not come back tomorrow as we have to drive on in another direction. One day we will have to come back...

We drive back and stop at Fort Klamath, a ghost town where there are still some people living. This morning we drove here too but then Crater Lake was a priority. We now take some time to capture some nice pictures and get back to the hotel. We go back for dinner at the same restaurant as yesterday and have the same meals but this time we keep some space for a delicious desert... cheesecake with strawberries. Yummie!
